Hospital corrects inaccurate media reports about on-site staff parking

Following the publication of an article about staff parking at the hospital in the MK Citizen on Friday 14 October, Milton Keynes University Hospital would like to correct the many inaccuracies presented in the story.

The story, which quotes two unidentified members of staff, made a number of claims that were incorrect and misleading. These relate to:

  1. Chief Executive, Professor Joe Harrison has a designated parking space;
  2. Staff pay a percentage of their wage to “guarantee parking”;
  3. “It has been claimed that this (the percentage staff pay) will increase to fund a new car park”.

Changes to Patient Transport Services

From Monday 3 October 2016, there will be changes for patients in Milton Keynes who use Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services.

Service users will be required to fulfil the following;

  • An eligibility assessment, to be reissued every 28 days
  • A two week advance booking period, for booking transport to and from appointments.

These changes are necessary in order to better plan and allocate resources for the service, and improve the overall patient experience.

Patients requesting transport will have to undergo an eligibility assessment every 28 days to ensure that they remain eligible for the service.  Where patients are assessed initially as ineligible, they will be able to reapply and be reassessed against the eligibility criteria within the 28 days period.

Milton Keynes Hospital is building a new ward

Milton Keynes University Hospital is beginning construction work on a new surgical ward from Monday 19 September to increase the number of beds available for patients.

The new ward, which will help the hospital deal with ever-increasing demand for its services throughout the year, will be built next to the Treatment Centre (which is currently also the hospital's main entrance).

The works are part of a larger programme of improvements being made to the hospital, with a brand new main entrance and Academic Centre - which is being built in partnership with the University of Buckingham - also planned for completion next year.
